For Watson, it was another solid year which led to his fifth track title at the speedway. “We had a good run tonight,” he said. “We did what we needed to do. I would have really liked to have finished the season with a win, but winning the title is great.” Watson rattled off three feature wins on his way to the championship, but admits, it wasn’t as easy as some may think. “This season was full of ups and downs and we were off at times,” he said. “We had troubles here and there, but Virgilio and Ward kept me on my toes the entire season as far as the points go.” While he’s won titles before, Watson feels this one is even more sweet because of new addition to the team recently. “I am especially proud of this title because my daughter got to be part of it along with my wife and my father,” he said. “In fact, my dad reminded me during the champion’s celebration that he and the Shuman’s (longtime sponsor car owners in the sport) have been doing this championship stuff longer then I have been alive.”

After a 2015 which saw the second-generation driver run the Modified division, taking Rookie of the Year and finishing in the top 10 in points, another Sportsman title is something to behold. “I’m extremely proud of my team and the effort they put forth this season,” Watson said. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”
